Understanding Scale Length
Scale length is the vibrating length of the strings between the nut and bridge.
Simple answer
Longer scales feel tighter and brighter; shorter scales feel slinkier and warmer.
Go deeper
Common lengths are 25.5" (Fender-style) and 24.75" (Gibson-style). A shorter scale at the same gauge has less tension, so bends are easier but the low end can feel looser.
