What Is Guitar Action?
Guitar action is the distance between the strings and the frets.
Simple answer
Low action is easier to play; too low causes buzz. High action feels stiff but rings clearly.

Action is measured at the 12th fret — around 1.6mm treble / 2mm bass on electrics is typical. Adjust it at the bridge saddles after setting neck relief.
