Pickup Types
Single coils are bright and clear, humbuckers are thick and quiet, P90s sit in between.
Simple answer
Pickups turn string vibration into signal. Their design sets the guitar's basic voice.
Common options
- Single coil — bright, glassy
- Humbucker — warm, powerful, low noise
- P90 — punchy and gritty
- Active — high output, consistent
Go deeper
Humbuckers cancel hum by using two coils wired out of phase. Output (measured loosely by resistance) affects how hard the pickup drives an amp — higher output means earlier breakup.
